What is DPI?

Scanning of physical documents and photographs is measured using resolution. In the scanning industry, resolution is described in the terms of dpi, or Dots Per Inch, and ppi, or Pixels Per Inch. DPI (PPI) refers to the quantity of pixels (colored dots) displayed in 1 sq. inch. on a monitor.
