Tip: Reports of AVAST Removing Scanned Files from Kodak Alaris Picture Saver Scanner Systems

Date: 2014-Jul-17

There have been reports with the Photo Scanner systems when Perfect Touch is run on s1220, PS410 and PS50, AVAST (virus, Malware checker) would delete certain files from the Kodak Photo Scanner directory.  The PS810 and PS80 have been tested and are not effected by AVAST due to different files are being used for their Perfect Touch.

The files being marked as bad and being removed by AVAST are:

df3_unit_test.exe
df3_unit_testcore.exe

To get circumvent this:

  • Before running Perfect Touch, exclude the directory where the Kodak Picture Saver system is installed
  • Make a copy of the AreaIF_tester.exe file and rename the copied file to df3_unit_test.exe
  • If df3_unit_testcore.exe is deleted by the Avast antivirus software,  you will need to reinstall the application to get the df3_unit_testcore.exe replaced

The issue has been reported to AVAST and they have been asked to 'white list' these files for all the products ASAP. In the mean time, excluding the directory and replacing the files will resolve the issue.
